Our farm is located in the Dungeness Valley just outside Sequim, WA. It's a small farm consisting of only an acre but that suits us just fine. It was my grandparent's home of 30 years. My grandfather loved his fruit trees and my grandmother loved her flowers-especially her roses. We have a wonderful orchard of apples, pears, cherries, and even a peach tree. To help keep them pollinated each year we also house several honey bee hives as well as a mason bee house. Bees are fascinating creatures.
In addition to the orchard, we have also put in an organic garden to raise our own veggies. I love to garden and have also enjoyed updating my grandmother's flower beds. I have added some new ones as well as spent countless hours cleaning out blackberry vines out of the old beds. Her lilacs were stunning this year. I even discovered her peonies were still going strong and even bloomed this year.
Adding the goats has been a great journey. I wanted a couple of does to milk for not only my soaping but to enjoy personally. In researching, I landed on the Nigerian Dwarfs. They have a high butterfat content to their milk making it very similar in taste to cows milk. Small in stature, they are about the size of a Labrador retriever. However, they can still produce a quart or more of milk a day.
We've been raising goats for 4 years now and have loved it. They are endearing little imps and have been fun to watch them grow and mature. Spring is just around the corner and that means a new crop of babies.
